GADSDEN COUNTY - SPECIAL OLYMPICS FLORIDA - TRACK AND FIELD GAMES 2018
Our Summer County Games event for Gadsden County Special Olympics was held on Wednesday, February 21, 2018, at the Gadsden County High School Track and Field. Opening Ceremonies began at 9:00 a.m. Major Willie Jackson (Retired from the US Army and Principal, James A. Shanks Elementary/Middle School) and Dr. Sylvia Jackson (Area Director for Secondary Education/ Adult and Vocational Education) served as Grand Marshall. Over 150 athletes participated in athletics (track and field) and over 200 "fans in the stands" joined in to make this a successful and enjoyable event for the athletes. In addition, seventy volunteers and "buddies" served to ensure a safe and fun-filled day for the athletes.
The athletes competed in lead- up games, 50 meter walk, 50 meter run, 400 meter walk, 800 meter walk and softball ball throw. Athletes also competed in 100 meter run, 200 meter run, 4x100 relay, running long jump and shot put.
Some of our athletes will compete in state level competition on May 18-20, 2018 at the Disney ESPN Wide World of Sports in Orlando, FL.
